Bonnie Prudden Myotherapy®

Bonnie Prudden Myotherapy® is a noninvasive method of relieving muscle pin and dysfunction without the use of needles or drugs. A Certified Bonnie Prudden Myotherapist® uses their knuckles, elbows and fingers to apply ischemic pressure into the muscles working in patterns. The muscles are placed on a stretch to teach them to be long and lengthened.

Bonnie Prudden Myotherapy® is the Original Trigger Point Therapy

A trigger point is an irritable spot in the muscle that remains after it has been damaged. It causes the muscle to shorten and/or spasm. This muscle is now experiencing ischemia, which is a lack of blood supply to the soft tissues. These tissues become sensitive to touch or locally painful. This is due to lack of oxygen, lack of nutrients and an accumulation of waste product building in the muscle tissues.

Trigger points are caused from repetitive motion, overuse, injury and trauma in the soft tissues. This can cause a person to have weakness, pain, decreased circulation and a limited range of motion.

A Bonnie Prudden Myotherapist® use knuckles, elbows and fingers to apply ischemic pressure into the muscles working in patterns. The muscles are placed on a stretch to teach them to be long and lengthened.

Muscle Pain and Dysfunction

Muscle pain has been described as dull, shooting, sharp, slicing, stabbing, aching, stabbing, stinging and burning. We all experience it but we know so little about it. What we do know is chronic pain is generally caused from receptors in muscle fibers that are fired by trigger points. When the trigger point fires, pain follows.

Your pain often has a distant source. For example, trigger points in the upper back and shoulders cause most headaches. Typically there are spasms with chronic pain. Spasms bring on more pain. It starts with a spasm-pain-spasm cycle. Bonnie Prudden Myotherapy® locates and diffuses the trigger points and breaks that pain cycle.

Bonnie Prudden Myotherapy® is a non-invasive therapy that does not use needles, medications, manipulations or electronic devices.

A Myotherapist takes a health history at your first visit to look for the root causes of the pain. Most medications and western medicine practices deal with treating symptoms. Myotherapy can be used alone or in conjunction with other health professionals.

Together, Myotherapy and corrective exercises work quickly and reliably.

Real Results That Last

Myotherapy means treatment to muscles, which was created and developed by Bonnie Prudden® in 1976. Her research led her to develop a two part technique that relieves pain of muscular origin and restore muscle function.

First gentle pressure is applied in patterns to release trigger points. Second, as the muscle relax they are stretched and therapeutic corrective exercises are given to regain strength, flexibility and range of motion.

Corrective Movements

The Bonnie Prudden Myotherapist® will use range of motion movements to teach the muscles a new habit. They have been shortened for a lengthy period of time. Muscle memory keeps them from returning to there once normal resting length. Corrective exercises are given to each patient so they can go home and continue putting the muscles through range of motion.
